New Research from EBRI: Higher Percentage of Older Workers in the Work force in 2010

New findings from the nonpartisan Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI) show there was a higher percentage of people age 55 and older (40.2 percent) in the work force in 2010 -- the highest level in 35 years -- even after the 2008-2009 recession.

Data released today by Standard & Poor's for the S&P Healthcare Economic Composite Index indicates that the average per capita cost of healthcare services covered by commercial insurance and Medicare programs rose 6.06% over the 12-months ending December 2010. This is the seventh consecutive month where we have seen a deceleration in the annual rate of change for the S&P Healthcare Economic Composite Index. The annual rate of change is down 2.68 percentage points from its May 2010 peak reading.

Bankrate: Mortgage Rates Settle Down

Mortgage rates eased back following a big move up last week, with the benchmark conforming 30-year fixed mortgage rate falling to 5.16 percent, according to Bankrate.com's weekly national survey. The average 30-year fixed mortgage has an average of 0.42 discount and origination points.

The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.4 percent in January on a seasonally adjusted basis, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 1.6 percent before seasonal adjustment.

Real average hourly earnings for all employees fell 0.1 percent from December to January, seasonally adjusted, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. This decrease stemmed from a 0.4 percent increase in average hourly earnings, which was partially offset by a 0.4 percent increase in the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U).
