Economic confidence among small business owners rose for the second consecutive month, although concerns about being able to pay their bills jumped significantly in July as measured by the latest Discover® Small Business WatchSM. The index rose to 82.1, up from 80.9 in June.

A new Deloitte survey of more than 220 private company financial professionals indicates support for having separate accounting standards for private and public companies. And, with the International Accounting Standards Board's (IASB) just-released International Financial Reporting Standards for Small and Medium-Sized Entities (IFRS for SMEs), Deloitte expects more private companies to support separate accounting standards.

The World Bank Group commitments in ECA grew in fiscal year 2009 by 58 percent, as financing was rapidly approved to help cushion the impact of the global economic crisis on the poor and to position countries for post-crisis recovery.

Although new-vehicle retail sales in July are projected to decrease 19 percent from July 2008, this marks an improvement in year-over-year declines observed for the first half of 2009, according to J.D. Power and Associates, which gathers real-time transaction data from more than 10,000 dealerships across the United States. Sales for the first half of 2009 are down 32 percent from the same period in 2008.

comScore, Inc. released the results of a study of U.K. online retail activity, based on data from the comScore World Metrix audience measurement service.
