National Poll Indicates Broad Public Support for Long-Term Care Reform

A new survey shows that nearly 80 percent of people are more likely to support a health care reform proposal that improves coverage for long-term care services for seniors. Moreover, substantial majorities of Americans among all demographic groups, including gender, age, income and party affiliation, express deep concern about affording long-term care services as well as strong support for improving long-term care coverage as part of health reform. The results come as President Obama and policymakers in Washington D.C. debate health care reform packages they aim to complete by the end of July.

TransUnion Consumer Credit Risk Index Hits Record Level

The TransUnion Credit Risk Index, a statistic developed to measure the changes in average consumer credit risk within various geographies, increased 1.98 percent from 124.79 in the fourth quarter of 2008 to 127.26 in the first quarter of 2009. On a year-over-year basis, the Credit Risk Index increased 7.10 percent (from 118.83 in the first quarter of 2008), the largest increase for that time period in this decade.

The Conference Board Leading Economic Index™ (LEI) for the U.K. increased by 1.0 percent in May to 91.4 (2004 = 100), following a 0.7 percent rise in April and a 0.9 percent drop in March. Volume of expected output, consumer confidence, stock prices and the yield spread made the largest positive contributions to the index.

As the summer holiday season gets underway, the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) – now held by 180 million Europeans - is celebrating its fifth birthday. Citizens from 31 European countries can use the card to get the medical care they need if they fall ill or have an accident in one of the participating countries (the EU, Norway, Liechtenstein, Iceland and Switzerland). Around 35% of Europeans now hold an EHIC, which simplifies procedures and cuts red tape for necessary medical treatment during a temporary stay abroad.
