The Monster Employment Index Europe rose by 26 points in February, the largest monthly increase since the Index started in 2005, as online job opportunities grew across the European Union. The UK saw the largest growth of 32 points while the Netherlands saw the smallest recovery, of 13 points.

EU27 real agricultural income per worker1 rose by 5.4% in 2007, after increasing by 3.3% in 2006. This increase was the result of a growth in real agricultural income (+3.1%) and a reduction in agricultural labour input (-2.2%).

Families with children have paid less in tax as a percentage of their income in recent years in Australia, Hungary, Ireland and New Zealand, thanks to family-friendly tax policies, but wage-earners in some other OECD countries, including Greece, Iceland, Korea and Mexico, have wound up with higher tax bills due to so-called fiscal drag.

Congress and President Bush must take joint action against the speculators who have driven oil and gasoline prices past all-time records, said OilWatchdog.org, a project of the Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights. Gasoline prices nationally are expected today to surpass last year's record of $3.227, and California, at $3.571 per gallon as calculated by AAA, is more than 7 cents a gallon over last year's record.

More evidence yesterday of the extent of the disruption caused by the heavy snowstorms and bad weather in China in January and February. First it was inflation jumping above 7% in January (that will be updated today), yesterday it was news of a strong rise in producer prices last month, and a sharp fall in the size of the country's trade surplus.
