According to the results of The Conference Board CEO Challenge 2011, CEOs across the globe cite business growth as the most critical challenge they face. In this year’s survey, over 700 CEOs, presidents and chairmen from across geographies and industries identified the most pressing issues they face in today’s business environment.

The annual growth rate of the broad monetary aggregate M3 increased to 2.4% in May 2011, from 2.0% in April 2011. The three-month average of the annual growth rates of M3 in the period from March 2011 to May 2011 stood at 2.2%, compared with 2.1% in the period from February 2011 to April 2011.

The India enterprise software market showed broad growth and recovery in 2010 with total software revenue increasing 16.3 percent annually to total $2.5 billion, according to Gartner, Inc. In 2009, India revenue grew just 4.2 percent to $2.1 billion.

In the EU27, household electricity prices rose by 5.1% between the second half of 2009 and the second half of 2010, after a fall of 2.3% between the second half of 2008 and 2009. Household gas prices increased by 7.7% in the EU27 between the second half of 2009 and 2010, after a fall of 15.5% between the second half of 2008 and 2009.

The total employment rate for people in the EU27 aged 20 to 64, which is the age group targeted in the Europe 2020 strategy, rose steadily from 66.8% in 2002 to 70.4% in 2008, then fell to 69.1% in 2009, and decreased further in 2010 to 68.6%. The employment rate for women in this age group, which increased continuously from 57.3% in 2000 to 63.0% in 2008, dropped for the first time in 2009 to 62.5%, then fell slightly again in 2010 to 62.1%. In contrast, the rate for older people, i.e. those aged 55 to 64, has continued to grow, reaching 46.3% in 2010, compared with 36.9% in 2000.

The Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index®, which had declined in May, decreased again in June. The Index now stands at 58.5 (1985=100), down from 61.7 in May. The Present Situation Index decreased to 37.6 from 39.3. The Expectations Index declined to 72.4 from 76.7 last month.

In 2010, price levels for consumer goods and services differed widely across Member States. Denmark (143% of the EU27 average) had the highest price level, followed by Finland (123%). Price levels of 10% to 20% above the EU27 average were found in Luxembourg and Sweden (both 120%), Ireland (118%) Belgium and France (both 112%), while Austria (107%), the Netherlands (106%), Germany and Italy (both 104%) were around 5% above the average. The United Kingdom (100%) was on the EU27 average.

The proportion of the population employed in 2010 - the employment-population ratio - was 18.6 percent among those with a disability, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported. The employment-population ratio for persons without a disability was 63.5 percent. The ratios in 2010 for both persons with and without a disability were lower than those recorded in 2009. The unemployment rate of persons with a disability was 14.8 percent in 2010, higher than the rate for those with no disability, which was 9.4 percent.

After a few months of inching upwards, President Obama's rating on how he is handling the economy is moving downward, tying his lowest rating ever, in of October of last year. This month just one-quarter of Americans (27%) give the President positive ratings on the overall job he is doing on the economy while almost three-quarters (73%) give him negative marks. Last month, one-third (32%) gave him positive marks and 68% gave the president negative ratings on the economy.
