Fifty-five percent of U.S. consumers plan to purchase their next vehicle within the next two years, according to a recent consumer sentiment study conducted online with approximately 1,400 U.S. auto owners by R. L. Polk & Co. The percentage of consumers intending to buy within two years varies by region of the country and is the highest in the Plains states and the lowest in the Great Lakes region.

The weekly average rate borrowers were quoted on Zillow Mortgage Marketplace for thirty-year mortgages remained relatively steady last week. Last week's rate was 5.07 percent, up slightly from 5.06 percent the week prior, according to the Zillow Mortgage Rate Monitor, compiled by leading real estate Web site Zillow.com®. Meanwhile, rates for 15-year fixed mortgages rose to 4.72 percent, up from 4.68 percent and 5-1 adjustable rate mortgages decreased substantially, down to 4.38 percent from 4.47 percent the week prior.

Most American workers are not covered by disability insurance, yet according to the results of a national survey released by Assurant Employee Benefits, nearly half (47 percent) are confident they would have adequate insurance should they suffer a disabling injury or illness, even if facing a negative job change. Assurant Employee Benefits commissioned the survey in late March to better understand consumers' concerns about losing dental, life and/or disability insurance coverage due to a job change or loss.

The world's airlines have scheduled 6% fewer flights for April 2009 compared with the same month last year, with a 3% drop in seat capacity, according to the latest statistics from OAG , the world's leading aviation data business and part of UBM Aviation. This is the ninth successive month of declines, and represents a reduction of more than 136,000 flights and 9 million seats year on year. The total number of flights scheduled to operate worldwide this month is 2.34 million, offering 287.3 million seats to travelers around the globe.

Economic confidence among small business owners rose to its highest level in 14 months in April as more of them see the broader economy and the conditions for their own businesses improving, according to the latest Discover® Small Business WatchSM. The monthly index increased more than 10 points, rising to 88.5, up from 78.2 in March and the highest since the Watch hit 90.8 in February 2008. April’s mark represents the third consecutive monthly increase in economic confidence among small business owners.
