MEPs say EU Must Take the Lead and Speak with One Voice on Climate Change Policy

In adopting a resolution on the EU strategy for a comprehensive climate change agreement in Copenhagen and the adequate provision of financing for climate change policy, MEPs underline that the EU must maintain a leading role in international climate policy. The House stresses the importance of the EU speaking with one voice in order to maintain its credibility in this role.

Cut Industrial Emissions Further but More Flexible, say MEPs

Pollutant emissions from thousands of industrial installations throughout the EU must be further reduced, but more flexibly, said the European Parliament. MEPs back a Commission proposal to update and strengthen existing rules, but inserted new provisions for introducing EU-wide emission limits, greater flexibility in granting permits, excluding small plants, and better informing the public.

Statute for a European Private Company: Creating a Uniform Company Throughout Europe

The European Parliament welcomes the proposal on the Statute for a European private company, but proposes amendments that are "essentially aimed at responding to the debates that are to be anticipated within the Council and to counteract blockages within the Council". The report proposes a start-up capital of at least €1, provided that the articles of association require that the management body sign a solvency certificate. If not, the capital must be at least €8,000.

New York Survey Shows Only 27% of Small Business Owners Approve of New $787B Stimulus Bill

MerchantCircle released survey results compiled from 378 local business owners throughout New York. More than 75% of business owners say they have seen a "moderate" to "severe" decline in sales and revenue from the same point last year. Only 4% of business owners believe the stimulus bill proposed by the Obama administration does enough for small business owners, while 59% say the plan does not. 37% say they "don't know enough about [the plan]" to have an opinion.

The weekly average rate borrowers were quoted on Zillow Mortgage Marketplace for thirty-year mortgages remained relatively steady for the third consecutive week at 5.28 percent, down slightly from 5.29 percent the week prior, according to the Zillow Mortgage Rate Monitor, compiled by leading real estate Web site Zillow.com®.
