The Enterprise Mobility business of Motorola, Inc. announced results of its second annual Motorola AirDefense Retail Shopping Wireless Security Survey, which shows 44 percent of the wireless devices used by retailers - such as laptops, mobile computers and barcode scanners - could be compromised. While this is a surprisingly high percentage, it is significantly lower than results from the same retail shopping survey conducted in 2007 which showed security vulnerabilities in 85 percent of wireless devices.

Overall computer and video game industry hardware, software and peripheral sales climbed to $22 billion in 2008, with entertainment software sales comprising $11.7 billion of that total figure - a 22.9% jump over the previous year - the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) announced.

The euro area (EA15) seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 8.0% in December 2008, compared with 7.9% in November. It was 7.2% in December 2007. The EU27 unemployment rate was 7.4% in December 2008, compared with 7.3% in November. It was 6.8% in December 2007.

A new Towers Perrin survey shows that the vast majority of U.S. companies are making multiple adjustments in their pay programs for executives and other employees in response to the deepening economic crisis. Overall, the modifications will mean lower - or no - 2009 salary increases and bonuses for 2008 performance for many U.S. employees, along with reductions in the value of 2009 equity grants for many executives.

Small and medium businesses in the Asia-Pacific excluding Japan region will spend $6.5 billion more in 2009 compared with the year before. Chinese, Korean, and Indian SMBs make up more than 50% of Asia Pacific spending, according to a latest study by New York-based Access Markets International (AMI) Partners Inc.

In the third quarter of 2008, the annual growth rate of net disposable income in the euro area equalled 2.5%, compared with 3.2% in the second quarter of 2008. The annual growth rate of consumption was 4.2% in the third quarter, which was slightly lower than in the second quarter (4.4%). In the third quarter the annual growth rate of net saving declined to -14.1%, from -7.8% in the previous quarter. The annual growth rate of gross fixed capital formation decreased to 2.8% in the third quarter of 2008, from 4.7% in the previous quarter.

Many U.S. couples are finding that the worldwide financial crisis is affecting their relationships at home, according to PayPal's third annual "Can't Buy Me Love" international survey. In fact, 43 percent of U.S. couples, and almost a third of all couples surveyed, say the recession has caused them to argue more often, primarily about finances and household chores.

comScore, Inc. released an analysis of Americans' usage of the job search category, the fastest growing content site category in 2008. The category has seen the number of visitors grow 51 percent to 18.8 million visitors, as layoffs mount and millions of Americans find themselves seeking new job opportunities. The final months of the year, which typically experience seasonal softness in job searching behavior due to the holidays, were instead some of the most heavily trafficked months of 2008.
