Few Employers Are Taking Action to Recruit and Retain Older Workers

Manpower Inc. announced the results of a survey of more than 28,000 employers across 25 countries and territories that was conducted to determine the extent to which employers have recruiting and/or retention strategies in place for workers age 50 and above. The findings reveal that only 14 percent of employers worldwide have strategies in place to recruit older workers and only 21 percent have implemented retention strategies to keep them participating in the workforce.

PC Market Returns to Double-Digit Growth on Strong Results in Europe and Asia/Pacific

Worldwide PC shipments grew by 10.9% in the first quarter of 2007 (1Q07), according to IDC's Worldwide Quarterly PC Tracker. Year-on-year growth improved from the fourth quarter in all regions with Europe and Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) showing the biggest improvements versus forecasts. Japan recovered from a double-digit decline in the fourth quarter, but was the only region with declining volume as the United States moved back into growth mode. Portable PC adoption remained the primary driver with a strong Consumer component.

Mobile Phone Shipments Grow 10.0% Year Over Year

The worldwide mobile phone market demonstrated continued growth during the first quarter of 2007. According to IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, vendors shipped 256.4 million units, a year-on-year increase of 10.0% for the first quarter of 2007. However, the shipments were 13.8% lower than the record shipments in the previous quarter; the decline was expected owing to the seasonality of the market.

The Market for Chinese Traditional Patent Medicine Increased by 10.06%

In the first three quarters of 2006, the total sales value of top seven medicine merchandises in China amounted to RMB 211.838 billion, up by 8.07% year-on-year, among which, the total sales value of drug reached RMB 156.805 billion, increased by 7.34% over the same period of 2005; total sales value of Chinese traditional patent medicine totalled RMB 37.205 billion, up by 10.06% compared a year earlier.
