In adopting a first-reading report, MEPs backed the Commission's plan to include the aviation sector in the EU emissions trading scheme (ETS). While the Commission had proposed capping ETS allowances for CO2 emissions at 100 percent of aircraft operators' average annual emissions during 2004-2006, the EP went even further, reducing the number of ETS-authorised emissions for aviation to 90 percent. The House also voted to exclude all military flights from the scope of the directive.

The 12 members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) pumped an average 31.11 million barrels per day (b/d) of crude oil in October, or a 350,000 b/d increase from September, largely on higher volumes from Saudi Arabia and Iraq, a Platts survey showed November 13.

Online hiring activity dropped in the UK in October 2007 for the second consecutive month as the Monster Employment Index declined by two points. The Index dropped to a level of 160 points, due mainly to a significant decline in online demand in the sales sector. There were also notable decreases in opportunities for craft and related workers; and legislators, senior officials and managers.

In September 2007 compared with August 2007, seasonally adjusted industrial production fell by 0.7% in the euro area (EA13) and by 0.5% in the EU27. In August production grew by 1.2% in the euro area and by 0.9% in the EU27. In September 2007 compared with September 2006, industrial production rose by 3.5% in the euro area and by 3.1% in the EU27.
