The Conference Board reports today that the leading index for Japan increased 0.2 percent and the coincident index increased 0.2 percent in November.

The job market has recovered from its early 2000 slump, and studies show that this is the tightest job market in years. A recent Harris Interactive survey of hiring managers and HR professionals has determined that 40% are planning to add full-time, permanent employees next year, and 81% expect to increase existing salaries.

US clothing demand continues to grow. Sales through clothing, accessory stores, warehouse clubs and superstores were especially buoyant in the first nine months of 2006. US producers benefited as clothing output rose by 4.6% in the first ten months while the imposition of quotas against China slowed import growth. But imports of cotton bed linen from India, Pakistan and Brazil surged.

The world's emerging and developed markets continued to post positive returns in December and for all of 2006 as oil prices remained low, Standard & Poor's announced today. According to Standard & Poor's global stock market review, The World By Numbers, emerging markets gained 5.44% in December, while developed markets rose 1.97% for the month. Developed market returns (+20.63%) also trailed that of emerging markets (+38.56%) in 2006.
