Hybrid vehicles are on course to achieve record sales in 2007, increasing by 35 percent compared with 2006. According to the report, an estimated 187,000 hybrid vehicles were sold in the U.S. market through the first half of 2007, accounting for 2.3 percent of the total U.S. new light-vehicle market through June.

Consumer demand for apartments remains strong as the subprime mortgage meltdown has decreased the number of renters leaving to become homeowners, according to the National Multi Housing Council's July 2007 Quarterly Survey of Apartment Market Conditions. On average, survey respondents reported few changes in the strong market conditions recorded three months ago, with the exception of a significant worsening of debt market conditions.

CarGurus announced its mid-year top 10 most popular car models as voted by consumers . Based on the quantity and quality of ratings received by each car on CarGurus, 2007 models were ranked by consumer popularity. Given the recent news on global warming and the need for greater fuel economy, it was surprising that 70% of the top 10 most popular cars were utility trucks or sports cars. Topping the popularity list was the Jeep Wrangler followed by the Ford Mustang.

The Monster Employment Index dipped three points in July, reflecting a seasonal summer slowdown in online recruitment activity normally seen at this time of year. The Index has shown a decline in online job demand every July since its inception in April 2004 due to the fact that employers typically ratchet back their hiring efforts during the heart of the summer season. In June 2007 compared with May 2007, the industrial producer price index rose by 0.1% in the euro area (EA13). In June, EU27 prices also gained 0.1%. In May prices increased by 0.3% in both zones. In June 2007 compared with June 2006, industrial producer prices gained 2.3% in the euro area and 2.2% in the EU27.

One month after the EU Roaming Regulation to reduce mobile roaming charges by up to 70% entered into force, the Commission has published a website to benchmark how mobile operators in all 27 Member States have applied the new EU rules. The Commission has found that the broad majority of mobile phone operators comply with the EU Regulation by offering customers the new "Eurotariff" (tariffs no higher than €0.49 per minute for calls made abroad and no higher than €0.24 for calls received abroad, excluding VAT).

U.S. workers want to work for socially and environmentally responsible companies and many are not doing simple things to help their employers conserve energy, such as turning off lights and computers when they are done using them. The study also found that employees are using some energy-saving measures at home but are not taking those same good habits to work with them.
