comScore Video Metrix report for May 2007, revealing that nearly 75 percent of U.S. Internet users watched an average of 158 minutes of online video per user during the month. Google Sites topped the monthly rankings with both the most unique video streamers and most videos streamed.

Construction Output up by 0.2% in the Euro Area

In the construction sector, seasonally adjusted production increased by 0.2% in the euro area (EA13) and by 0.1% in the EU27 in May 2007, compared to the previous month. In April, production decreased by 1.2% in the euro area and by 0.3% in the EU27. Compared with May 2006, output in May 2007 gained 1.8% and 1.9% in the euro area and in the EU27. In April the annual growth was 3.3% in the euro area and 4.8% in the EU27.

VoIP Enters a Period of Growth in China

Water Scarcity and Droughts in Europe: Commission Addresses Key Challenge

Moving the European Union towards a water-efficient and water-saving economy is the aim of a Communication presented by the European Commission. The objective is to open a debate on the ways the EU can address water scarcity and droughts in an environment dominated by climate change. The Communication presents an initial set of policy options and raises issues to be taken into account to ensure the availability of water for all human, economic and social activities. The Commission will report on the progress of these issues in 2008.

Euro Area External Trade Surplus 1.7 bn euro

The first estimate for the euro area (EA13) trade balance with the rest of the world in May 2007 gave a 1.7 bn euro surplus, compared with -3.9 bn in May 2006. The April 2007 balance was +2.3 bn, compared with -2.7 bn in April 2006. The first estimate for May 2007 extra-EU27 trade was a deficit of 15.0 bn euro, compared with -17.9 bn in May 2006. In April 2007, the balance was -13.9 bn, compared with -16.6 bn in April 2006.

China's oil market 2007

In accordance with the Agreement on China's Accession to the WTO, China's oil market was formally opened to the outside world on January 1, 2007. From the end of last year to the present, the Ministry of Commerce has successively issued the Administrative Measures for the Product Oil Market and the supplementary Guide Manual for Product Oil Operation Enterprises.

OECD Health Data: Specialists Outnumber GPs in Most OECD Countries

The medical profession is a growth industry: OECD Health Data 2007 shows that the number of doctors in OECD countries has increased by 35% over the past fifteen years to 2.8 million. In most countries, this growth was driven largely by rising numbers of specialists – up nearly 50% between 1990 and 2005 - compared with the 20% increase in general practitioners (GPs).
